Beyond the Headlines: Chomsky on Media and Manufactured Consent

Hey everyone,

Recently, I read an interesting article called “What Makes Mainstream Media Mainstream” by Noam Chomsky. It instantly caught my attention because I’ve been noticing a lot of political stuff going on in India and the role the media plays in all of it.

I was excited to read it because I thought it would give me some new insights and bring awareness on role of the media. I read it with curiosity and was greatly satisfied with the content it provided.

Noam Chomsky talked about the concept called “Manufactured Consent.” It basically means that sometimes media can control what we perceive or think by showing us only certain things. Chomsky’s argues that media organizations are often controlled by the state, elites and powerful personalities. Therefore, media doesn’t give us the whole picture. They frame stories in a way that supports agenda of those in power. People at receiving end don’t realize that they have been manipulated.

This whole thing concerned me about the news I watch on mainstream media. It's a serious issue and raises the question of how much we can rely on the media to understand what is happening in India and around the world. Should we be more critical of the information they give us.

So, if you're interested or curious to know how the media works, I highly recommend reading this article. It might change the way you see media and its role in the world.

Take care and happy reading.
